REACH Revision stopped
EU Commission focuses on simplification and robust enforcement
For quite some time, the question had been: will the REACH revision happen, or won’t it? Now there is clarity: The European Commission has confirmed that the planned revision of the REACH Regulation is currently not being pursued further.
Instead, Brussels is focusing on simplification, modernization, and above all stronger enforcement within the existing regulatory framework.
What does this mean for companies?
For manufacturers, importers, and downstream users of chemicals in the EU and EEA, this means greater planning certainty, but no reduction in day-to-day regulatory obligations!
Companies must continue to closely monitor developments, such as substance restrictions and authorization procedures, supply chain communication, new requirements for classification and labelling, and further EU initiatives.

Reactions and Outlook
The German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) considers the Commission’s decision an important signal for the competitiveness of Europe’s industrial base, but also calls for further steps to reduce regulatory burden.
Already at the start of this year, we discussed at Chem-Academy conference for Product Safety, how improvements are possible without reopening the legal text – with practical approaches, such as more intensive dialogue with authorities, stronger consideration of scientific expertise, as well as concrete simplifications for dossier updates and a reduced frequency of IT system updates (REACH-IT, IUCLID updates).
Conclusion:
The major reform is off the table, but regulatory dynamics remain unchanged…
